Hands-on test: Is the Bodum Travel Press worth it or not?

There were plenty of freebies and samples being given out at the International Home and Housewares Show this past week in Chicago. But to be honest, most of it was pretty unremarkable: plastic water bottles, reusable shopping bags, travel-sized cleaning products, thumb drives containing media kits, candy, more water bottles. You get the idea. One manufacturer, Bodum, stood out, however. People were lined up for its freebie: the Bodum Travel Press (*Est. $15).

Convention-goers literally waited in line for 20 minutes or more, just to watch a brief demonstration of how the Bodum Travel Press worked and to get a tumbler of their own, filled with hot coffee. It probably wasn't the free coffee they were waiting for; there was plenty of that being given out by Keurig, Tassimo, Nespresso and others in the convention hall. It had to be the Travel Press itself. Was it worth standing in line for, much less worth spending money on when there are other highly rated travel mugs available? I took my place in line and waited for a Travel Press of my own to test. Read on to learn how it fared.
