Replacing a cracked LCD on your smartphone? Yes, you CAN do it yourself

It's the sight no one wants to see: a spider web of cracks all over your smartphone's LCD screen. I was very happy with my nice little HTC Droid Incredible until I dropped it from the top of Coney Island's Cyclone roller coaster. I didn't buy insurance for it (such extended warranties are a bad deal for most people) and I wasn't anywhere near the end of my new-in-two Verizon contract (which would have let me buy a heavily discounted new phone). So faced with buying a full-price new smartphone (the Droid Incredible 2 retails for $500), I decided to explore the DIY route.
